The 2008 911 Fitness Challenge begins January 7, 2008. The Fitness Challenge is a 12 week competition in which members of the 911 Community and the community at large create teams and compete against one another to lose the most body fat while gaining the most muscle mass for a $5,000.00 prize in each region! Prizes will be given away to winning individuals and teams from Alaska, as well!
Eligible members may include Active or Retired Police, Firefighters, Paramedics, EMS, Military, Corrections, Nurses, Physicians, civilians, anyone else involved in the 911 responder category, and their spouses. Teams consist of 3-5 members.
Proceeds benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children, which provide FREE services to children who suffer from physical disabilities or severe burns.
To register, Team Captains can apply online by filling out the registration form at http://www.fitnesscommitmentinstitute.org/registration.html, or by calling 305-297-5328 to request an application
Contestants will be measured at Morrison Auto Group on the corner of 10th and Gambell. Weigh ins will be held January 7 from 1 pm to 8 pm with a “Weigh in Party” starting at 4 pm. Businesses from around the community will be on hand to give information and support to help make your Challenge successful. We will also be providing sandwiches, generously provided by Subway, to get your Challenge off to a fresh start. Additional weigh in dates and times are January 8 from 1:00-4:00 pm and January 9 from 4:00-8:00 pm. Contestants will be weighed and their body fat will be calculated. Body fat is measured by a 3 point caliper test. Trainers will be available to record each competitor’s weight and body fat percentage.
A “before” picture of your entire team must be taken within one week of beginning the challenge. The picture must include all members and a Team Name Sign, with a white background and large bold letters, which must be positioned in front of the competitors. Team names must be relevant to the 911 Community or fitness.
Fitness Challenge Participants ultimately learn and experience how to improve their fitness level, compete with their peers, friends and family and contribute to the welfare of children who struggle with physical disabilities. Every person, however they are involved, is a winner. Take the 911 Fitness Challenge!!
